Executive Summary

This course was initially created to maintain Academy Instructor Certification (AICC) requirements.    The material is very well-reviewed and was created by the same instructional experts who were contracted to write the curricula for the POST Instructional Development Institute levels 3 and 4.  Course is available to all public service students including STC agencies. Students learn how to design outcome-based curricula by applying the science of how people learn.  Attendees will:

  • Hone their classroom presentations to be more effective instructors
  • Demonstrate how to involve students in productive facilitated discussions that yield true take-away strategies using the 85% Rule©
  • Apply meaningful visual and auditory reinforcement by using PowerPoint correctly
  • Research and analyze learner characteristics to increase student behavioral outcomes
  • Be able to create a lesson plan according to industry best practices

This dynamic and innovative training will equip students with skills that they can apply immediately.

Training Cadre

Kris Allshouse serves as Executive Director for The Regional Training Center. He is a retired Detective Supervisor and California POST Master Instructor. He has designed and taught over 40 courses for California Law Enforcement including the POST ICI Officer Involved Shooting, Homicide, Burglary, Vehicle Theft, and Identity Theft Courses. Kris was an instructor and curriculum writer for the POST ICI Instructor’s Course, the IDI Leadership Mentoring and Coaching Course, the IDI Advanced Instructor Course, and the Master Instructor Certification Course. 

Alan Caddell is the principal of Alan Caddell and Associates.  Alan retired as a Commander with the Santa Ana (CA) police department and has nearly 30 years of varied law enforcement experience.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration and a Master of Arts degree in Education. Alan is a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Master Instructor, a former member of the POST Quality Assessment Program and he served on the POST Instructor Standards Advisory Committee for 10 years.
