ATAK for UAS Operations Course

Effectively employ sUAS in conjunction with ATAK for enhanced situational awareness in various operational contexts

New Dates Coming Soon - April 2024

New Training Course for 2024

Course Summary

The ATAK for UAS Operations Course is designed to empower public safety and security professionals with in-depth skills using the Android Team Awareness Kit (ATAK). This two-day course covers the fundamental aspects of ATAK, such as setup, navigation, and mapping tools. It delves into more advanced features like mesh networking and real-time data management.

A significant portion of the course is dedicated to integrating small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) with ATAK, providing participants with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to effectively employ sUAS in conjunction with ATAK for enhanced situational awareness in various operational contexts. This training is essential for professionals seeking to leverage ATAK’s capabilities for critical missions, ensuring they are well-equipped to handle complex ground and aerial data coordination scenarios.

Students will:

  • Master the basics of ATAK, including installation, navigation, and map features.
  • Explore advanced ATAK settings for mesh networking and data management.
  • Gain hands-on experience with sUAS integration in ATAK, focusing on aircraft compatibility, software configurations, and real-time data sharing.
  • Apply ATAK and sUAS skills in simulated public safety scenarios.

ATAK for UAS Operations was explicitly structured to engage learners of varying expertise, from beginners to seasoned users. The first day serves as an intensive ATAK orientation, laying the groundwork for integrating UAS into your ATAK skill set. This approach ensures all participants, regardless of their starting point, gain the proficiency needed to apply ATAK confidently in their UAS operations.

Equipment Requirements

Android Devices:

For enhanced performance and compatibility with UAS controllers, students should consider utilizing a Samsung S20, comparable or newer model. A smartphones’ more compact form factor makes them a preferable option for mounting onto UAS controllers and offers better handling during field operations. For students bringing their own devices, current or recent Android versions (no more than 3 years old) would be preferable for compatibility and performance.

UAS Equipment:

  • DJI Mavic 2 series
  • Mavic 3 series
  • Spark
  • Mavic Mini
  • DJI Mini 2
  • Mavic Air 2
  • DJI Air 2S
  • Matrice 300 RTK

Students bringing their assigned UAS equipment should verify its compatibility with ATAK before the start of class. Limited devices will be available to students who do not have compatible equipment.
